The Church

The church was ordained by Jesus Christ to be the pillar and ground of the truth on earth. It is a unique assembly of people that has a spiritual role in the affairs of mankind. This role within human society is not to be taken over by any other type of organization. The church is the body of Christ on earth, and it alone can properly fulfill the will of God to guide people spiritually along the narrow path that leads to eternal life.

The church is to teach the nations about God and baptize people that have been saved through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. The church is the voice of God on earth to preach the gospel to every person worldwide and stand against the evil practices of the world. As such, the church is subject to the laws of God first then the laws of society. Where there is a contradiction, the church is to follow the laws of God. The church answers directly to God in matters of spirituality, and it should not be influenced by governments or other parts of society to cause it to stray from holding fast to the word of God.

To keep the church from being controlled by the state, churches should not incorporate under 501(c)(3) which legally makes them creatures of the state and subject to its power. The church should be free of state influence in matters of spiritual truths and should be free to preach the commandments of God to society without answering to governing officials regarding unpopular truths that convict the conscience leading to repentance over sin. The church should be willing to accept persecution if a conflict occurs where the state is unhappy with the preaching coming out of the church because it is in opposition to God.

The elders of each local church are to watch over the individual members of the assembly as those that will someday give an account to God. They are responsible to work together to seek the will of God for the local church assembly where they are overseers. They are not a replacement for the father of a household, and they are not to usurp his authority over his family. They should work together to help each church member fulfill the calling of God on their lives.

The church should not incorporate beliefs or practices designed to increase membership at the expense of following the will of God and holding true to the teachings of the Bible. Following corporate ideologies for church growth that are designed to appeal to the sinful desires of the flesh are not to be employed within the church. It is a violation of biblical principles to build the church on the wisdom of man so that its leaders can benefit financially from a large assembly of individuals that are being led astray by the preaching of worldly philosophies that oppose the word of God.

The church should assist each believer on their spiritual journey through this life toward their eternal home in the new heaven and Earth with God. The members of the church body should share the ups and downs of life with each other and walk together in the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. The church should present the world with an example of spiritual living so that the unsaved members of society are convicted of their sinful living and led to a place of repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ bringing them to a place of salvation.
